Gorumara was declared as National Park in 1994, it is an important national park of North Bengal and is famous for one horned Rhinoceros. It is situated just at the foothills of Great Himalayas in the Terai region; Gorumara National Park and Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is divided by Murti River.
The National Park is spread over an area of 80 square kilometres in the foothills of the Great Himalayas, having mixed of forest and grassland. The salient feature of this national park is one horned Rhinoceros. In the recent years, there has been noticeable increment in the tourist arrival, and therefore option for jungle safari has also been increased during the recent times.
Jungle Safari in Gorumara National Park is a must thing to do.
Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the oldest Sanctuary of India. It has covered mostly with Dry Mixed Forest; you can find some of the rare plants in this sanctuary. Most of the part of this Sanctuary has covered with wooden trees like Sal, Teak, Shishu, Shirish, etc.
The Murti River flows by the western boundary of it and the Sanctuary is totally located on the plain land of the Doors. It is a very small Sanctuary when you compare with others sanctuary of the country, just a 9.6 square kilometers area is bounded.
The Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is filled with solid greenery which provides a natural home to the animals and birds who are living in this sanctuary. The sanctuary is a wildlife heaven covering with quite high trees and thick bower of greenery.
In the year 1895, it was declared as Reserve Forest by the British Government, whereas later in the year 1998, it was declared as Wildlife Sanctuary. Jeep Safari in Chapramari National Park is quite popular among visitors who visit in this wildlife sanctuary.
Buxa Tiger Reserve is situated in a 760 square kilometre area, it is located inside the Buxa Wildlife Sanctuary National Park in West Bengal. Tiger, Elephant, Gaur, Indian Boar, Civet and Red Jungle Fowl are found in this sanctuary.
Buxa Tiger Reserve boundary runs along with the international border with Bhutan in the northern area. You will find Buxa Fort here as well, which is quite an important landmark of this sanctuary. The Buxa fort was captured by the British Government.
The Buxa Tiger Reserve is a real treasure of natural things, the one who loves nature will definitely like to explore the sanctuary thoroughly, who will find over 400 species of trees and herbs, species of shrubs and orchids. This Tiger Reserve is also a delight for the bird lovers.
Tribal dances of this region are beautifully extracted with simple dance forms.
Generally, they are collectively performed in an occasion like weddings, festivals, arrival of seasons, during harvest etc. They deliver their point on social issues as well. Every village have their individual tribal dances, the “Chaibari nritya” is a dance form performed majorly by the tea garden workers.
The other popular dances are “Domphu nrtiya” derives its name from Domphu (A musical instrument). Dancers of “Domphu nritya” give expression to their ambitions, joys and hopes through their folk-dance performance.
