According to preliminary data, fewer people attended the 82nd Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

According to the city of Sturgis’ August 12 update, there were a total of 400,341 vehicles on the road from August 5 to 11, including a 45,436-vehicle influx on Thursday.

The August 13 update contained no information about traffic or vendors.

According to the August 13 release, the city will continue collecting “significant amounts of data for the next several weeks,” with a final report — including demographic survey results, economic impact analysis, financial summary, and estimated attendance — set to be released during the 82nd Annual City of Sturgis Post Rally Summit in October.

According to data from August 12, the city issued approximately 760 temporary vending and other temporary licences.

According to rally data compiled by the South Dakota Highway Patrol from 6 a.m. August 6 to 6 a.m. August 14, the Sturgis and Rapid City districts saw an increase in DUI arrests, total warnings, cash seized, and vehicles seized.

Misdemeanor drug arrests, felony drug arrests, total citations, non-injury crashes, injury crashes, fatal crashes, and the number of fatalities all decreased.

In 2022, there were 148 DUI arrests, compared to 122 in 2021, with 116 occurring in Sturgis. There were also 148 misdemeanour drug arrests, down from 151 the previous year.

In contrast to the 1,572 citations and 4,319 warnings issued in 2021, there were 1,430 citations and 5,288 warnings issued in 2022.

During the rally in 2022, four vehicles were seized for drug possession, compared to none in 2021.

There were 45 non-injury crashes in 2018, compared to 50 in 2021, with 19 in Sturgis and 26 in the Rapid City District.

There were 50 injuries, compared to 62 at the 81st Rally. According to data from the Highway Patrol, 34 of the injury crashes occurred in Sturgis, while 16 occurred in the Rapid City District.

In addition, three fatal crashes and three fatalities occurred, two of which occurred in the Rapid City District.

According to the August 14 Monument Health rally report, there were 17 emergency room visits and 17 urgent care visits in Sturgis. There were 22 event-related inpatients in Rapid City.

During the 10-day period, Rapid City saw 172 rally-related inpatient check-ins, 113 emergency room visits, and 55 urgent care patients. Sturgis treated 12 inpatients, 224 emergency room patients, and 224 urgent care patients.

Monument Health reported nine inpatients, 45 emergency room visits, and 19 urgent care visits related to the rally at its Spearfish facility.

There was one inpatient check-in, 28 emergency room visits, and 19 urgent care visits in Lead/Deadwood. Custer Hospital had five inpatients, 36 emergency room patients, and two urgent care patients.
