Cherry Creek State Park is a state park located in Arapahoe County, Colorado. The park's natural prairie and wetland environment is centred on an 880-acre reservoir.
On the northwestern shore, the Cherry Creek Marina and Yacht Club provides mooring and catered events. On the north-eastern side, there is a large imported-sand swim beach with plenty of parking.
There is also an outdoor shooting range in the park. During the summer, there is a dock where people can store their boats. Jet skis, paddle boards, and kayaks can also be rented for the day.
Park is home to over 40 mammal species, including cottontail rabbit, coyote, beaver, muskrat, raccoon, weasel, ground squirrel, mule deer, white-tailed deer, & scurrying black-tailed prairie dogs.
There are 12 miles (19 kilometres) of paved roads and 35 miles (56 kilometres) of multi-use trails open to runners, cyclists, and horseback riders in the park.
There are camping areas, radio-controlled aircraft, picnic areas, and opportunities for bird watching, cross-country skiing, and fishing. There is also an outdoor shooting range in the park.
The park charges a small per-day admission fee, and an annual pass to all of Colorado's state parks is available. Seniors (age 64 and up) and military personnel can purchase discounted passes.
The Cherry Creek Swim Beach and Day Use Area is located 30 minutes from downtown Denver and directly adjacent to the Cherry Creek State Park Campground.
Rattlesnakes can live in the park, but haven't seen one in a long time. Please give them plenty of space, as with all wildlife, to avoid conflict.
To some extent, alcohol is permitted in city and state parks. Drinking is permitted in city and state parks across Colorado, but only when the percentage of alcohol is 3.2 percent or less.
Cherry Creek is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hours of operation for individual stores and restaurants may differ.
The area is popular for not only walking but also camping, swimming, and kayaking. It is recommended that you park in the Tower Loop parking lot and follow the route counter-clockwise.
