How to get to Waiheke Island

Waiheke Island is just a 35-40-minute ferry ride from Auckland city, New Zealand! If you choose a flight to get there, you will reach on or around 10-minute from Auckland city. As soon as you get there, you will find buses and taxis waiting to take you to your final destination, “Waiheke Island”.

If you do not want to travel in buses or taxis, you can hire a mountain bike or motor scooter. Alternatively, you can also bring your car or bike along with you on the car ferry.

A true island paradise just an hour away from Auckland Central City, but you feel like a world away when you get there.

How to get to Waiheke Island?

The main and the most common way to get to Waiheke Island is on the public ferry. Many ferries are running between Auckland and Waiheke Island every day. Not only tourists, but people who work in Auckland also use the Ferry every day as the mode of transport.

The very first ferries leave early in the morning, around 06:00 AM, whereas the last one around 12:00 AM midnight. There are several ferry services to Waiheke Island, some of them are as below:

Fullers provides regular service to Waiheke Island, departing from Auckland City every day.

360 Discovery

This is also a passenger ferry service from Auckland to Coromandel via Orapiu Wharf.

It’s also possible to charter a private boat to take you to Waiheke.

You can also reach Waiheke Island via air, but to get there via air, it is necessary to charter a fixed-wing aircraft, seaplane, or helicopter. It is quite expensive than the ferry though, but you will get a memorable experience with beautiful views.
