Plus Codes, as the feature is known, works even when you are not connected to the internet. We’ll go through what Plus Codes are and what they signify to you in this article.

What are Plus Codes?

Plus Codes serve as a substitute for street addresses for people or places without one. Plus Codes are based on latitude and longitude and displayed as numbers and letters, rather than addresses with street names and numbers.

When this feature launched?

The function was first introduced in 2018, although it was only used by NGOs, governments, and other organisations at the time. Google claims to have been testing the feature for the past month or so with regular users. However, it is only recently that Google Maps has added a new India-first feature that allows you to get the Plus Codes address for your home using your present location.

Advantages of Plus Codes

Plus Codes can be useful for navigating, communicating a location to friends or relatives to assist them in getting to your home, and for deliveries. Users don’t have to share approximate addresses with landmarks or listen to potentially confusing audio directions. Plus Codes help you save time while travelling to new places by directing you to your exact destination. Plus, because codes can be easily written on signs, posters, and printed maps, they are valuable for individuals who do not have access to mobile devices or computers. This improves the link between the online and offline worlds.

How to generate Plus Codes on Google Maps?

Google has stated that the function is presently only available for Android phones and that it will be available for iPhones later. If a user saves a location under “Home” on an Android phone, they will receive a screen that says “Use Current Location.” Google Maps will generate a Plus Code using the location services on the Android phone, which can be used as the Home address. Users will also be able to add a section to the Saved tab where they can share and use their home addresses.
