The Super Bowl will not be held for another six months.
However, hotels in the Phoenix area are already at capacity for the big game, which is set for February 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
Hotel in Phoenix for a Super Bowl LVII 2023
According to a search of hotel reservation websites, many hotels in metro Phoenix, including Hilton, Marriott, and IHG properties, are sold out for the weekend of Feb. 10-12, as well as the days following the game.
During an early August check of the hotel chains’ reservations websites, even hotels in outlying areas such as Buckeye, Happy Valley, and Queen Creek had no availability.
And vacancies in hotels will cost you money.
The Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix Midtown, located about 17 miles from State Farm Stadium, had a rate of $1,114 per night for a stay from Feb. 10 to 13.
MK Hotels Mesa, about 33 miles from the stadium, showed a rate of $452 per night for the same dates – on the lower end of the range we saw.
Rates are also higher at smaller chains and independent hotels. A studio apartment with a balcony is available for $1,367 per night on Super Bowl weekend at Sonder at McKinley, about 17 miles from the stadium in downtown Phoenix; the same room is $182 per night Jan. 27-30, two weekends before the big game.
Phoenix Open Golf Tournament
Travel to Phoenix in February is extremely popular for reasons other than Super Bowl 57 is the WM Phoenix Open golf tournament, which is scheduled to take place from February 6 to 12, coinciding with Super Bowl festivities.
This double dose of major sporting events is expected to fill the region’s hotels, particularly the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, which will host the WM Phoenix Open.
A search of room rates revealed that standard rates begin at $699 per night for stays from February 1 to 6 and $799 for stays from February 16 to 18.
Many February visitors are interested in the resort’s upcoming luxury “hotel within a hotel,” the Privado Villas, which is set to open in the fall of 2022.
How early you should book a hotel?
According to Jesse Thompson, area director of sales and marketing for Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale and Mountain Shadows Resort in Paradise Valley, interest in Super Bowl hotel bookings typically comes in three waves.
The first wave of visitors, who booked rooms in the days following the previous Super Bowl, has already passed.
The second wave consists of travellers who book when the NFL season begins, according to him.
Finally, the third wave consists of travellers who book as the playoff season begins, according to Thompson. This includes fans travelling from the playoff teams’ home cities.
Glendale lists about 12 hotels near State Farm Stadium in the Glendale Sports and Entertainment District.
For Super Bowl weekend, all are sold out.
The Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel & Spa was one of these hotels, with “very high” demand and higher room rates than previous Super Bowls.
